CAN-BUS LINE

Car Alarms with CAN BUS SYSTEM

Patrol Line: New CAN BUS Alarms

The new generation of vehicles import a technological innovation which revolutions the vehicle's electrical circuit.
The necessity to communicate a more and more greater number of electronic central lines and the complexity of this, inevitably creates an unsustainable increase of dedicated connections and the duplication of the same necessary sensors to several devices, with consequent increase of production costs and above all physical encumbrance.
In order to solve these problems, the CAN system (Controller Area Network) has been adopted.

The CAN is a serial bus of programmed data communications, for real time application, born specifically for the automobile industry.
Developed by the Companies, Bosch and Intel, it was also confirmed later as a field bus in the sector of automation technology.
As nearly all field buses, the CAN is based on a model with layers OSI-7. The CAN respects the ISO 11898 standard.

Up to date, an electric circuit wire carries out one function only on the greater number of vehicles: feeds one determined component, or else receives or transmits certain information.
On the new models however a physiological limit has been reached on the traditional circuit, with big sheaths of cables as big as an arm and with something like two and a half kilometres of electrical wire.
It's enough to think, for example, that a car with an adjustable and electrically warmed posterior viewer, automatic window pane opener, centralized locking with an antitheft  system, eight electrical regulations and two memory devices on each seat, need more than 50 cables for each front door, with remarkable constructive difficulty and with serious risks for reliability.

Instead of assigning just one function to each wire of the electrical circuit, the CAN makes use of connection by network "multiplex" which connects the various central lines and transmits a great amount of information and commands on one line only (also called "bus of data information").
This is made possible by the "serial" transmission,  that is to say in very quick succession:  the line can transmit up to one million "bit" in a second, which are deciphered by a microcomputer  positioned in various points of the car.
With such a system, in order to make the vehicle working, it would be sufficient to have a cabling constructed with only 4 wires:  earth, input with the battery tension and two wires through which the signals are transmitted.

One of the more important advantages of the CAN is to make the various central lines dialogue as well between themselves in order to coordinate common actions which, foresee exchanges of data information in a very short time, the confirmation of having received and correctly read the information and the signalling of eventual errors.
The CAN bus transmits the data information giving priority to that which is more important.

Patrol Line: New CAN BUS Alarms
The innovation created by CAN has captured, during the last few years, the attention of the biggest automobile manufacturers, who from the middle of the 80's, have begun to substitute part of the traditional electrical circuit with the CAN technology. For 2007 the car manufacturers will use at all made the CAN technology.

In the middle of 2002, OPEL presented the new OPEL VECTRA, the first vehicle with the handling of complete electrical circuit in CAN. The number of the cables could be increased to the minimum: an input and a communication wire can be found in the car.

The new group of CAN-BUS alarms was introduced in 2004 by Patrol Line that is continuously monitoring the innovations. These alarms communicate with the help of the CAN system of the vehicles. Then in 2005 it created the new digital alarm, which is compatible with the CAN-BUS system, which is the greatest innovation on the Europian alarm market.
Among its advantages we can mention the easy installation and high level of safety.

The versions of C-BUS now available are indicated in the attached list

It is Patrol Line's feeling that all the automobile manufacturers will convert to the CAN BUS technology within 1-2 years time. On such presupposition it will become obligatory to convert the technology of the alarm systems according to the CAN regulations.

The incompatibility of the traditional alarms to the CAN system is more or less total; all the classical functions such as:

·    Control of the traffic indicators
·    Control of the centralized closure
·    Detection of the opening of the doors
·    Horn control
·    Shock sensor

can not be handled with traditional alarm systems.

The working functions of the C-BUS line are the same as those in the traditional alarm systems, but with the advantages which are given by the CAN.

Other specific features can be found in the user manual of the product.
Installation   of the Can Bus

The installation of the Patrol Line C-BUS alarm system is ELEMENTARY; the following described advice with relative images show the simplicity of the small amount of connections.
